Fun Stuff About Our Parish
|
|
Visitors to St. Luke's will discover a faith community where people of all backgrounds, races and genders are respected and cherished for who they are, where people truly enjoy each other's company, where people can agree -- or agree to disagree -- about the issues of the day, where people can learn to be truly comfortable. Comfortable enough to trust enough to share the hopes and fears and events that shape their lives. Oh, and did we mention we laugh and have a lot of fun together?!?
Whether it's talking over coffee and goodies on a Sunday morning, traveling together to learn something new at a local attraction (such as the trip to Sleepy Hollow shown above) or dining on fine homemade Italian fare for a special fundraiser, St. Luke's parishioners certainly excel at hospitality. When you arrive at our church, you are most welcome!
Opportunities for Fellowship
|
This is where strangers become friends. There is coffee, tea, juice and snacks -- or sometimes an entire potluck meal -- during the fellowship hour following Sunday services. A sign-up sheet is in the Parish Hall and everyone takes turns sharing the hosting duties.
Once a month on third Sundays at 6:00 P.M., parishioners provide potluck items for a family-style dinner and then play games.
Seriously. It's game night or sometimes movie night with pizza. Whatever the activity, there is lots of laughter because, in case you didn't know it, silliness is SO good for the soul!
Whether it's going out for a fishing trip, a baseball game, a Dim Sum luncheon, a pancake dinner at IHOP/Englewood on Shrove Tuesday or joining the Book Club's excursions to area attractions such as Hyde Park and Sleepy Hollow (shown above), members of St. Luke's know how to have fun together.
Please note that good fellowship for St. Luke's almost always involves good food. (Luncheon after the visit to Sleepy Hollow was held at an excellent local eating establishment. Mmmm!!!)
Many parishes honor St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the natural world, with special Blessing of the Animals services on or around the saint's feast day on October 4.
At. St. Luke's, all pet parents are invited to bring their animal companions right into church,
where the blessing takes place in the middle of the service!
