Outreach and Community Service

REGULAR MONTHLY DONATIONS

(Sign up on the Home Page for our newsletter each month for special events or any changes to our regularly scheduled ingatherings)

Second Sunday: Monthly ingathering for The WholeSum Pantry/Church of the Holy Communion/Norwood

A hallmark of St. Luke's parishioners is their dedication to outreach. Here are just a few examples of our recent community service projects to support local charities. Every year the proceeds from our fundraisers are distributed to organizations such as The WholeSum Pantry/Church of the Holy Communion/Norwood, Family Promise of Bergen County, Center For Food Action in Englewood, North Porch Women and Infants' Center in Hackensack and Youth Consultation Service in Hackensack. St. Joe's & St. Luke's Family Promise Team Members
Twice a year, members of St. Luke's join together to support the team from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Demarest in hosting guests in an overnight sheltering program via the Family Promise Network.
St. Joe's & St. Luke's Family Promise Meal
In addition to practicing the Ministry of Presence -- the compassionate act of simply being “present” to someone in need -- the team prepares a delicious and nutritious meal for the Family Promise guests.
Bergen County Housing, Health & Human Services Center
Working with parishioners from Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Paramus, St. Luke's supports Family Promise's long-term commitment to feeding the hungry. Every day of the year, a different group is scheduled to prepare and serve dinner at the Health and Human Services Center in Hackensack. Up to 150 people are served a nutritious meal each night at the shelter.
Walk-in Dinner Volunteers
Parishioners from St. Luke's and Our Saviour Lutheran/Paramus work together twice a year to feed approximately 150 people at the Walk-In Dinner in Hackensack.

Book Club Crafts for Christmas At Sea
Members of the Book Club spent months knitting and/or crocheting hats and scarves for donation to mariners via the Christmas At Sea program sponsored by the Seamen's Church Institute.
Secret Santas Fulfilled
Every year, St. Luke's parishioners play Secret Santa by offering requested Christmas presents to the young people served by Youth Consultation Services in Hackensack. YCS provides services to thousands of New Jersey families who have children, birth – adulthood, with special needs.
Coins for Change
A little bit of spare change really adds up! Parishioners offer their Coin Jars for Change for collection every quarter. Proceeds benefit St. Luke's. Over the course of the program, hundreds of dollars have been raised for outreach.
St. Luke's Shopping Cart for CFA
Parishioners donate foodstuffs for the monthly ingathering on 2nd Sundays to benefit Center For Food Action in Englewood
